Opera Guild of Southern Arizona
P.O. Box 64327 Tucson, AZ 85728
The Opera Guild of Southern Arizona (OGSA) was established in Tucson in 1958. Its mission is to support education and training in opera, to sponsor and give assistance to operatic programs and activities, and otherwise to cultivate a wider public interest in opera in Southern Arizona.
In the spring of 2017 the Opera Guild of Southern Arizona will award scholarships to one graduate and one undergraduate student at the University of Arizona, chosen by the voice faculty. In addition, an Encouragement Award will be awarded to a qualified Pima College student. Voice faculty at both institutions will choose scholarship awardees.
The 2017 scholarships will be as follows:
Graduate OGSA Scholarship – $1,000.
Undergraduate OGSA Scholarship – $1000
PCC Encouragement Award – $250
The recipients of the OGSA Scholarship will be asked to perform in an Opera Guild event.
OGSA has funds to help University of Arizona opera students pursue opportunities complementary to their academic studies. The grants are intended to help cover additional costs opera students incur, such as attending summer opera programs, travel to auditions, and helping to cover costs of concerts and recitals.
The grant application is on the OGSA website www.azogsa.org. Grant applications may be submitted to OGSA at any time. The deadline for submission of applications specifically for 2017 summer programs is May 1, 2017.
The Board of Directors will judge grant applications on criteria based on academic performance (including grade point average), vocal performance and activities, career ambitions and goals, strength of the faculty endorsement, and quality of the application.
The Board of Directors may request an interview with the applicant., and grant recipients will be asked to submit a summary of the program/activity attended.
